Where did summer go? Its seems like my oldest son just finished the third grade yesterday, and yet tomorrow is his first day back. Crazy! I feel like I’m not ready (and so, I can’t imagine how he must feel… hopefully more ready than I!)… I’m not ready for back to school night, selling candy bars to the poor unfortunate souls at my office, and working on 4th grade homework and trying to remember how the hell we did “it” when I was in 4th grade. Mostly, I’m not ready for my son to grow another year older. While there’s a big part of me that can’t wait for my boys to grow up so that I can have a grown relationship with them, the other part of me wonders why this is all speeding by so fast (sigh). But alas, the school year is here so I better get myself together. For any other parents out there trying to get into the swing of things again, here are a few of my tips to make the adjustment a little smoother.
Well, that’s my advice. It’s a lot, but when you think about it, having a kid in school is a lot of work! Especially in the first month trying to get back into the groove. These tips should not only help you adjust, but should also help your student. Happy schooling y’all.

These days it seems that no one saves money like they used to; Money is spent nearly as fast as it’s earned. I know that in my house, there’s is usually very little, if any, left to put into savings. I realized a few months ago that I needed to make some changes and figure out some inventive ways to start saving. Here are some of the tricks that I’ve found work surprisingly well without putting any additional pinch on your pocketbook (well, some of ‘em might pinch a little).
Now, all of these things will work, IF you take that money you’ve just saved and actually put it into that high interest saving account we spoke about. Saving yourself money in a bunch of different places is great, but it’ll get you nowhere if you go and blow it on a night out on the town, or a great little dress that you just had to have. Make your money work for you, and take charge of it. If you don’t, know one else will… in fact they’ll try to convince you that you shouldn’t.
Have some other ideas? Have a great success story? I would love to hear them!

So, this past weekend I went camping a couple hours west of where I live. It was a super short trip, but it made going back to work on Monday excruciatingly painful. This picture is from my campsite… can you see the torture?
Sometimes a little mini-break can seem almost unfair to my psyche! It’s not long enough to fully recharge, but long enough to realize how much I need a real vacation! Getting “back to the grind” is proving to be quite difficult this week. So, for today, this is where I wish I was. Of course, realistically I would get tired of camping after a few days. Part of what makes little trips like this so great is that it isn’t the everyday thing. If it was, it wouldn’t be so fun, right? Still, being up there on that mountain sure beats sitting behind my desk at work.
So, where do you wish you were? If you could choose any place in the world, where would it be? I encourage you to respond with detail so we can all join you in your place… if only for a moment!

Every woman should have sacred space in her home for retreat. It should be a place for you to meditate, read a book, sleep, journal or anything that helps you to recharge when you’re feeling overworked. Preferably, this space would be off-limits to others in the house so that it always feels like your own energy.
Your sacred space can be anywhere you have room. It can be a spare bedroom, or a corner of your own bedroom that is isolated with fabric or other “barriers”. It can even be an empty closet! The important thing is that you are comfortable in that space. Once you’ve picked your spot, clear everything out. Everything. You want to start from scratch. Think about what the room’s primary function will be. Will you use it to read or to meditate? To listen to music or write in a journal? What you plan to do with your sacred space will determine a lot about what you will include in your design. The design will help create the proper energy for you to relax, heal and recharge.
When creating your sacred space remember to take into account color, texture, scent, and lighting; all of which will play a big part in how you feel in the space. Here are some tips:
Once you’ve added all the necessary ingredients to your sacred space, the only things that will be missing is you! Begin to set aside some time each day to be in your space. It doesn’t have to be hours (even 15 minutes can be a miracle if you’re a mother!); any amount of time as long as it’s daily will be a good start. As you begin to take advantage of it’s benefits, you’ll find yourself making time to be there more often. And again, try to keep others out of your space… it’s sacred for crying out loud!!!

How is it so easy to find yourself stuck helplessly in a rut of life? One day you wake up, drive to work, do the same things you've been doing everyday for what seems like an eternity and you wonder, "How the hell did this happen"? Is this really what the rest of my life is going to be, because if waiting in the line at the Starbuck's drive-thru on my way to work is the highlight of my day, then something's gone seriously wrong.
